A Healthy, Tasty and Filling Breakfast Option
One of the impacts of maturation of globalisation, the growth of television and Internet, and the significant increase in disposable incomes in select but sizeable pockets of urban Indian society during the last decade has been the growing popularity of many foreign food products in the country, which our society by and large was not much acquainted with even a decade earlier. One of them is waffle.
In fact, few things compare to starting your day with a warm crispy waffle, doused in maple syrup and butter. For those who haven’t got much of an idea of what a waffle look like, one may clarify that usually waffles are square in shape and are made in a particular manner. For the uninitiated it may be mentioned that a waffle is a leavened batter or dough cooked between two plates, patterned to give a characteristic size, shape and surface impression. There are many variations of waffles based on the type of waffle iron and recipe used.
Waffles have the potential to break your regular, boring monotony in breakfast. Many people in India have already tasted this delicacy, made more delicious with fruit, maple syrup and other dressings – and as expected, have welcomed waffles with open arms. Spruced with ice cream or fresh fruit, honey or syrup, waffles can make for an apt party dessert too.
The waffle recipes depend on what you choose for sauce or toppings. In waffles, toppings make a huge difference. Mayonnaise, maple syrups, fruit slices and chocolate chips can come across as some great toppings for waffles.
Waffles can not only add enjoyment to your breakfast tables but are also filling. They can be healthy too, if the waffles are made with fresh & natural ingredients and with fewer additives. The flour used in waffles is generally a healthy one. Waffles are generally lower in sugar, salt, and fat, which is again a plus point for this product. Moreover, the waffles are made with malted barley wheat which has a natural digestive, thereby helping to digest the breakfast.
But when did waffles make their entry into India is difficult to say. It could be attributed to the British Raj in India or it could be more recent; in the post-liberalisation era. However, there is no denying the fact that waffles are gaining popularity in India during the recent years. This is the right time for many enterprising entrepreneurs in the country to start a waffle cart business. Delhi-based Vaffla King has contributed immensely towards popularising waffles in the country.
“The company was intrigued by the freshly made eggless waffles in 2013 & introduced the same at Ahaar 2014. Sheer ease in making, perfect taste & consistency in the product attracted many eyeballs from the entire HoReCa segment, which also included celebrity Chefs, ” recollected Amay Asrani, the Founder of Vaffla King Llp .
“Vaffla King” has introduced the concept of freshly baked waffles in hotels’ breakfast offerings, in the Indian hospitality industry, ” stated Asrani. The company also participated at various consumer food fairs, which helped it to develop a taste for waffles among Indian consumers. Company also financed various stand-alone shops for waffles with infrastructure and raw materials & also helped them with training & recipe. “This facilitated to develop a waffle eating culture in India. These outlets could garner profits by merely selling waffles, ” pointed out Asrani. This set the ball rolling…
“With time more and more players in the country have plunged in to the waffles business, and the old ones have opened more outlets focused on waffles with company’s support and are now enjoying a terrific run in the market, ” proffered Asrani.
We can see that powered by the enterprise and vision of Asrani, healthy and tasty waffles are expected to have a sweet future in the Indian food service and food retail industry, in the near future.
